The Indiana AG’s office filed a lawsuit against the dentist for failure to protect personal information and for improperly disposing of records containing the personal information of Indiana residents. This violates Indiana privacy laws as well as HIPAA. The incident is a result of the dentist hiring a private company (business associate) to dispose of his patient records. Later, boxes of the records where found in a dumpster of a church. The AG's office recovered the records.
